The wooden floor at the Royal West of England Academy was greatly in need of restoration.

The floor required frequent polishing and maintenance; scratches appeared when heavy articles were moved and more polish needed to be applied.  This resulted in a build up of polish over many years, causing the floor to look dark and tired.

Firstly, any necessary repairs were undertaken and Lecol was used to fill any joints in need of attention before the floor was sanded.

We then sanded the floor, with the Hummel, using Sait belts 24 – 100 grit.  This is a floor sanding machine linked up to a Bonavac machine to control the dust levels, with approximately 98% of the dust captured in the bag. Then using the Elan edging machine difficult corners and edges were tackled.  The floor was finished using the Trio 3 disc sanding machine to give a smooth professional finish before lacquer was applied.

We then used Junkers Prelack x 1 coat a barrier applied before the lacquer followed by HP Commercial x 3 coats. Each coat taking approximately 3 hours to dry before the next coat was applied. This gives the floor a good build up of Lacquer and a deep shine to the surface.

James Ferguson, the Facility Manager at the West of England Academy, had requested a 1 year warranty on the floor. Total Floor Care was the only company to offer a warranty against wear, due to the quality of the finish that was achieved.

This was in association with Junckers, provided a strict maintenance plan using the Silva Junckers chemicals was followed. 

Total Floor Care would inspect the floor after six months, then provided no serious damage has occurred an overcoat would be required in about 5 – 6 year’s time.  Recoating a floor is a relatively simple process and will mean that the professional finish to your floor will last.

As you can see the floor looked amazing and the customer was delighted with the final result.
